Our Philosophy
Embedded within Thomastown Primary School, Spring Street Kindergarten is a vibrant, thoughtfully designed learning hub for the whole community. The kindergarten includes two thirty-three place rooms. Ample free car parking is available to the kindergarten via Spring Street for convenient pickups and drop offs.
The building provides spaces for families to come in and participate in parenting groups, support programs and extra-curricular activities with the children.
Local history confirms Thomastown was once open fields where the Aboriginal tribes would gather yellow native Yam Daisies, which has inspired the use of colour and landscaping features. The service shares a beautiful community garden with large indigenous trees which reflects our teachings around the importance of social responsibility, respect for the land and community history. The building was designed around these trees to ensure their preservation and inclusion in the learning environment.
We acknowledge that each child’s journey is different and therefore aim to provide children with diverse learning opportunities and environments that support, enhance and challenge them to flourish. Our play-based programs and curriculum are developed in-line with the National Quality Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning Framework principles.
Our close relationship with Thomastown Primary School will provide opportunities for seamless transitions to primary school. With shared values of respect, involvement and inclusion, the kindergarten will extend the reach of learning to begin early and grow. With shared resources, co-curriculum planning and regular shared activities across the site, the kindergarten will provide all children with access to rich social experiences. Community, sustainability and inclusion are three of the core values instilled within the programs offered.
Our Spaces / Environment
Spring Street Kinder has large light-filled rooms that provide many opportunities for play. Children can participate in a variety of activities that will support and encourage their development in visual arts, manipulative play, social and dramatic play, construction as well as literacy and numeracy. Outdoors children will be able to develop their climbing skills, their gross motor skills as well as learn about sustainability and gardening.

The Victorian Government provides funding to support children to access a high quality kindergarten program in the two years before they start school. This helps to ensure all Victorian children get the best start in life.
From 2023, the Victorian Government is making kindergarten programs free for three and four-year-old children – saving you and your family up to $2,500 per year for their program. Free Kinder is a critical component of the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reform.

Does my child need to be toilet trained to attend kindergarten?
