Every day is an opportunity for discovery and growth at Mt Carberry Preschool

At Mt Carberry we offer a play based program- Children are naturally motivated to play. A play-based program builds on this motivation, using play as a context for learning. Play allows children to explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways.

A play-based approach involves both child-initiated and teacher-supported learning. The teacher encourages children’s learning and inquiry through interactions and experiences that aim to stretch their thinking to higher levels.

The philosophy of Mt. Carberry Preschool is that WE ALL BELONG HERE. We pride ourselves on inclusive practice and these practices are embedded in the curriculum.

  • We believe that children learn best when they are guided, supported, challenged and respected.
  • We also believe that children learn best when they are supported to work at their own learning pace, and their competence is acknowledged.
  • With an inclusive program, we ensure a successful kindergarten experience for children of all abilities.
  • We strongly acknowledge that children have individual voices that need to be heard and respected for who they are and what they wish to contribute to their own learning environment. Developing a sense of ownership and belonging.
  • We also believe that incorporating other family networks/services will not only support the child but the whole family ensuring equity for all.

As Educators, we believe that challenging ourselves and undertaking further learning/training on a yearly basis will support the needs of the families in our community.

Children are given the opportunity to explore and experiment in a stimulating and supportive environment so they can learn through their play. Play is the work of children. All children develop in their own way at their own pace. The kindergarten program aims to facilitate this process.

Our high-quality kindergarten program will offer your child a range of learning experiences and activities that are both stimulating and fun. We offer these in an open ended unhurried pace.

Your child’s learning and curiosity will be encouraged through experiences and activities, such as exploring the natural world, being exposed to new ideas and solving problems.

Your child will be able to learn to work with others and make friends through group activities and cooperative play, express their creativity, for example, through dance, movement and art, build their communication skills by listening to and having conversations with the educators and other children all the while developing the skills that they need for reading, writing and mathematics.

Preschool separation anxiety is common for many children especially for those children who may not have spent much time away from their family or they may simply need more time adjusting to their new environment, whatever the reason it’s really important to work with your teacher to work out a plan that works for you and your child.

This may mean you need to stay for a while at drop off time, or possibly have shorter sessions to begin with. Your teacher may make a schedule for your child or call you during a session. Having a relaxed approach and working in collaboration with your child’s teacher are all the positive makings for a smooth home to kinder transition.

As a sun-safe organisation we provide child-friendly sunscreen, however if your child has sensitive skin please feel free to provide your preferred brand.
