At Kingsway Pre-School it is our belief that children learn best in an environment where they feel happy and safe and are respected as competent learners, who can contribute meaningfully to their own learning. Children are valued as individuals and their voice is heard and opinions are respected in our programs.
Children engage in a play-based program that reflects the concepts of the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia: Belonging, Being and Becoming.
We respect the important role of parents and families, their individual uniqueness, the influences of culture, traditions and family practice. We work in partnership with families; develop positive relationships based on mutual trust, open communication and decision making.
Parents and families are encouraged to become involved, through being a member of our parents group, participating in service surveys and participating in day-to-day sessions. We highly value the link between family, an Early Learning Environment, the wider community and Schools. We work in partnership to provide the best start for each child.
We create a welcoming environment for our children and families.
As educators, we recognise that each child brings with them existing knowledge and experience. We recognise that children have different learning capacities and styles and use a combination of child-led, child-initiated, intentional teaching to support learning. We observe, evaluate and plan for each child as we set goals to progress learning.
We keep up to date with best current practice through regular professional development and regularly reviewing and reflecting on what happens in our service.
We connect with outside agencies, schools, people and services to support children and families. E.g- Supporting additional needs, transition to school programs, etc.
We support workplace policies, procedures and standards in partnership with TRY management. Local and community agencies are encouraged to educate, communicate and demonstrate their programs to our service.
We offer opportunities and resources to secondary and tertiary students to share professional knowledge and practice.
We are committed to provide an inclusive environment for all, respecting diversity and the individual values of our families. We respect and value the culture and heritage of the traditional owners of our land; the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Our Spaces / Environment
Kingsway Pre-School has many beautiful and accessible play spaces for all children to explore and discover. We pride ourselves on our well established outdoor yard, with large shady trees and plenty of room for children to move about and explore freely. Our outdoor environment includes a bike path, swing area, sandpit, cubby house, veggie garden, mud kitchen, watertank, worm farm and well established plants and trees. We have a large focus on sustainable practices and educating the children about caring for the environment.
Our indoor room has large windows overlooking our outdoor yard. Children have many choices indoors to discover and learn at their own pace. We encourage our families and children to have input into our programs and their voices are encouraged and valued. Children learn best through play-based activities- hands-on learning about the world around them. At Kingsway, children learn to form friendships, develop their confidence and independence, thinking and problem solving skills and develop a sense of belonging.

The Victorian Government provides funding to support children to access a high quality kindergarten program in the two years before they start school. This helps to ensure all Victorian children get the best start in life.
From 2023, the Victorian Government is making kindergarten programs free for three and four-year-old children – saving you and your family up to $2,500 per year for their program. Free Kinder is a critical component of the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reform.
What will my child learn at kindergarten?
Our curriculum is play based and draws reference form socio-cultural theories of learning and teaching.
Play requires skilled educators to be intentional in all aspects of their practices and we have built a curriculum around key focus points that reflect the National Early Years Learning Frameworks. Our curriculum is influenced by individual children’s learning styles, interests, families and intentionally planned experiences.
Should my child be toilet trained to attend?
We respect each child is individual and develops at his/her own rate. We encourage families to have begun toilet training and will work to support their child’s development to promote a positive outcome.
Children do have toileting accidents on occasion, which are managed sensitively and discretely by educators. We ask each family to keep a complete change of clothes in their child’s bag in case children require changing. They’re also handy for when your child becomes thoroughly immersed in water play outside!
Do I need to pack sunscreen?
As a sun-safe organisation we provide child-friendly sunscreen, however if your child has sensitive skin please feel free to provide your preferred brand.
