See what our community have to say
Wonderful preschool my kids learnt so much - fantastic professional teachers.
I am just writing to express my absolute gratitude to the kinder staff at Bellevue Hill Preschool in Hillside. I recently had an occupational therapist attend to have a chat and see my son in progress and she was very impressed with the kinder. The teacher has gone above and beyond ensuring that my son feels comfortable and his needs are met. The communication on Story park helps connect their learning to home and gives us ways to engage with our sons learning. So on behalf of myself and my son we just wanted to say what an amazing first term we have had!
Our Philosophy
At Bellevue Hill Preschool we acknowledge the uniqueness of every child and their family within our diverse community.
We encourage and recognise partnerships with families and believe that learning outcomes are most likely to be achieved when they are valued and nurtured.
We believe children are curious, competent learners who bring their own knowledge, views and beliefs to the world in which they live. Children are encouraged, supported and provided with opportunities to be inquisitive, enthusiastic participants in their learning environment all the while developing positive dispositions for lifelong learning.
We promote equality and diversity through inclusive ways of being. We recognise and nurture each child’s sense of belonging to their family, being part of the community and becoming involved in society
Our Spaces / Environment
CHILDREN
All children need to be viewed as individuals, within the context of their family and their community. When children are encouraged and supported to be curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning, they begin to develop positive dispositions for lifelong learning.
All children have the right to feel safe and be safe all of the time in accordance with Child Safe Practices.
FAMILIES
Children learn and develop best when they are given opportunities, support and engagement within their families and in partnership with early childhood professionals. All parents need opportunities to participate in the program according to their needs, interests and opportunities. We recognise and value the importance of developing positive relationships between children, parents and staff. We value parent support and involvement through our Parent Support Group.
STAFF
Staff are committed to promoting the emotional and physical wellbeing of all children. Staff are recognised as individuals and their personal and professional contributions are valued. Staff deserve good working conditions to encourage lasting and valuable partnerships between them and the centre.
COMMUNITY
The needs of families, children, staff and the community are continually changing therefore we need ongoing evaluation to ensure our service is responsive to those needs. We strive to provide an excellent service for early childhood education within our community. It is important to share our knowledge and work collaboratively with community organisations, council, professional support services and local schools. We realise the importance of successful transitions between preschool and school and take an active role in preparing for these transitions. We strive to provide an excellent service for early childhood education within our community.

FAQs
What is play-based learning and why is it important?
- Children are naturally motivated to play. A play-based program builds on this motivation, using play as a context for learning. Play allows children to explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways.
- A play-based approach involves both child-initiated and teacher-supported learning. The teacher encourages children’s learning and inquiry through interactions and experiences that aim to stretch their thinking to higher levels.
- Educators follow a cycle of planning to observe each child individually to identify their strengths and areas for development and plan the educational program to meet the needs of each child, to challenge them and to support their independence and learning.
- Play-based learning builds on essential foundations such as pre-literacy, pre-numeracy skills, social and emotional skills that children must establish before they are ready to take on more structured learning at school.
Do I need to pack sunscreen?
Bellevue Hill Preschool is a sun-safe organisation we do provide child-friendly sunscreen but encourage families to provide your preferred brand in a roll-on to encourage children to take increasing responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.
Should my child be toilet trained to attend?
We respect each child is individual and develops at his / her own rate. We will work to support your child’s development in this area when they are ready.
Children do have toileting accidents on occasion, which are managed sensitively and discretely by educators. We ask each family to keep a complete change of clothes in their child’s bag in case children require changing.
