Every day is an opportunity for discovery and growth at Bellevue Hill Preschool

At Bellevue Hill Preschool our staff are caring, dedicated and passionate about encouraging children of all abilities, backgrounds and cultures to participate in a preschool program designed to foster children’s learning and development. We provide 3 and 4 year-old programs, in a happy and safe learning environment and like to work closely with our families and their children, as well as the local community, to build strong and healthy relationships. We aim to support families and encourage them to take an active role in their child’s journey at preschool.

At Bellevue Hill Preschool we acknowledge the uniqueness of every child and their family within our diverse community.

We encourage and recognise partnerships with families and believe that learning outcomes are most likely to be achieved when they are valued and nurtured.

We believe children are curious, competent learners who bring their own knowledge, views and beliefs to the world in which they live. Children are encouraged, supported and provided with opportunities to be inquisitive, enthusiastic participants in their learning environment all the while developing positive dispositions for lifelong learning.

We promote equality and diversity through inclusive ways of being. We recognise and nurture each child’s sense of belonging to their family, being part of the community and becoming involved in society

CHILDREN

All children need to be viewed as individuals, within the context of their family and their community. When children are encouraged and supported to be curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning, they begin to develop positive dispositions for lifelong learning.

All children have the right to feel safe and be safe all of the time in accordance with Child Safe Practices.

FAMILIES

Children learn and develop best when they are given opportunities, support and engagement within their families and in partnership with early childhood professionals. All parents need opportunities to participate in the program according to their needs, interests and opportunities. We recognise and value the importance of developing positive relationships between children, parents and staff. We value parent support and involvement through our Parent Support Group.

STAFF

Staff are committed to promoting the emotional and physical wellbeing of all children. Staff are recognised as individuals and their personal and professional contributions are valued. Staff deserve good working conditions to encourage lasting and valuable partnerships between them and the centre.

COMMUNITY

The needs of families, children, staff and the community are continually changing therefore we need ongoing evaluation to ensure our service is responsive to those needs. We strive to provide an excellent service for early childhood education within our community. It is important to share our knowledge and work collaboratively with community organisations, council, professional support services and local schools. We realise the importance of successful transitions between preschool and school and take an active role in preparing for these transitions. We strive to provide an excellent service for early childhood education within our community.

THE PROGRAM

Children build on their understanding about the world through their interactions with other children, adults and their environment.

The educational program is guided by:

  • The Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. (VEYLDF).
  • Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework For Australia.

The educational program contributes to the following outcomes for each child:

  1. Identity – Children will have a strong sense of identity.
  2. Community – Children will be connected with and contribute to their world.
  3. Wellbeing – Children will have a strong sense of wellbeing.
  4. Learning – Children will be confident and involved learners.

  • Children are naturally motivated to play. A play-based program builds on this motivation, using play as a context for learning. Play allows children to explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways.
  • A play-based approach involves both child-initiated and teacher-supported learning. The teacher encourages children’s learning and inquiry through interactions and experiences that aim to stretch their thinking to higher levels.
  • Educators follow a cycle of planning to observe each child individually to identify their strengths and areas for development and plan the educational program to meet the needs of each child, to challenge them and to support their independence and learning.
  • Play-based learning builds on essential foundations such as pre-literacy, pre-numeracy skills, social and emotional skills that children must establish before they are ready to take on more structured learning at school.

Bellevue Hill Preschool is a sun-safe organisation we do provide child-friendly sunscreen but encourage families to provide your preferred brand in a roll-on to encourage children to take increasing responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.

We respect each child is individual and develops at his / her own rate. We will work to support your child’s development in this area when they are ready.

Children do have toileting accidents on occasion, which are managed sensitively and discretely by educators. We ask each family to keep a complete change of clothes in their child’s bag in case children require changing.
